RE:          SANCTIONING OF FENCING TOURNAMENT RESULTS.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

(1).  SANCTIONING OF EVENTS:  Upon a motion duly made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the following resolution was made regarding the future requirements for fencing events to be "sanctioned" by the Columbus, Ohio Division USFA:

            WHEREAS, the sport of fencing is growing and the number of fencing clubs desiring to host events is also growing;

            BE IT RESOLVED, that in order for fencing events held within the Columbus, Ohio Division of USFA to be "sanctioned" by the Board, the following are required:

            1.  The event shall be publicly announced, including a listing on the official COD website as a "USFA event," providing notice to all COD members of the date, place, and time of the event for at least ten (10) days prior to the date of the event.  The organizers shall notify the COD Secretary.

            2.  The organizers shall form a bout committee of at least three persons prior to the start of the event and post the identities of the committee members, and the bout committee shall include at least one COD member, and if possible, at least one USFA or FIE rated fencing official.

            3.  The organizers shall abide by all USFA rules and regulations, especially as to equipment checks (mask punch tests), fencing uniform requirements, use of electric equipment, and tournament format.

            4.  The organizers should make a good faith effort to obtain rated fencing officials for at least the bouts of the top eight (8) fencers in any direct elimination table of foil and saber events.

            5.  The organizers should utilize the COD referee pay scale for officials contracted to work an event, unless fencing officials for the event agree otherwise.

            Local/Unrated                $20.00 per day

            Local Rated                    $35.00 per day

            Local Rated 5+              $45.00 per day, for sectional circuits and qualifiers only

            Out of town Rated          $65.00 per day*

            Out of town Rated 5+  $100 per day, for sectional circuits and qualifiers only

*Applies only for persons specifically contracted to come from out of town to work as fencing officials, not to fencers from out of town who compete and who also do some officiating.

            6.  Women may fence in a Men's event without restriction if the woman in question also competes in the corresponding Women's event of that same tournament. Amended per COD Board Meeting of 25-Aug-2005.

            7.  COD sanctioned events shall be approved by the COD Board of Directors.
